HISTORY

In 2021, The leadership at Northwood Baptist Greenridge began praying for opportunities to help dying churches live again. God answered that prayer by allowing Northwood Baptist to replant Gethsemane Baptist Church in Summerville, South Carolina. Gethsemane Baptist Church had struggled for years, and at the time Northwood Baptist Greenridge adopted Gethsemane Baptist, the church had approximately twenty people in attendance, and they had not seen anyone come to faith in Jesus Christ in years. Northwood Baptist Greenridge sent a team of people to Gethsemane Baptist to replant the church, led by Pastor Jay Glasgow. In 2023, Gethsemane Baptist baptized ten people, and the church grew to approximately seventy people in average attendance. On April 7, 2024, Gethsemane Baptist Church joined with Northwood Baptist Church to form a family of churches. Gethsemane Baptist became Northwood Baptist Berkeley, and Northwood Baptist Church became known as Northwood Baptist Greenridge. In 2023, Northwood Baptist Greenridge began a replanting relationship with Wando Woods Baptist Church. On April 21, 2024, Wando Woods joined the Northwood Family of Churches and become Northwood Baptist at Wando Woods. We look forward to welcoming more churches into our family as we radically cooperate for the work of the Gospel in the Low Country and beyond.

BELIEFS

The Northwood Family of Churches is aligned with the Southern Baptist Convention and our churches affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Each church upholds the following elements as core commitments of our churches:

1. ENCOUNTER GOD

We live to worship our God who has redeemed us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

2. EXPERIENCE COMMUNITY

We grow best in our faith when we are connected to the body of Christ.

3. EQUIP DISCIPLES

We must train followers of Jesus to obey Jesus and live out the character of Christ.

4. ENGAGE THE WORLD

We long to see people from every tribe, tongue, and nation redeemed by Jesus.

FAMILY TRAITS

01. SHEPHERD LEADERSHIP

We believe that the biblical pattern and model for pastoral leadership in the church is not that of CEO but of shepherd. Pastors in the Northwood Family of Churches are committed to caring for their church as they lead their church, faithfully teach their church, and protect their church from false teaching. Pastors in the Northwood Family of Churches are committed shepherding their flock well. Because it takes much time to bring revitalization and transformation to individuals, families, churches, and communities, Northwood pastors and our congregation are committed to each other for the long haul.
